Scenes of South Dakota (Day21)

Don't trust people who drive cars. Don't trust them to describe the road. They think they're being truthful, so I forgive them. But still, don't trust them.
I had not seen a wind from the south for a couple of weeks. Today Route 12 would take me on a big southerly bend down to Mobridge. And today was the day the wind shifted to blow out of the southeast. I was told the terrain was flat, but of course, it wasn't. In fact, as I made my way toward Lake Oahe, I climbed some of the steepest hills of the entire trip.
But I made it to Mobridge- through McLaughlin, and I must admit I felt conspicuous and uncomfortable in the town I had been warned about, but it was probably self-fulfilled paranoia.
The pictures above are typical of the South Dakota countryside. Look carefully. See two horses standing right at the crest of that hill. They were perfectly placed- maybe too perfect. Audioanimatronics?

It amazes me how a single country can have such a variety of landscapes. And what a way to see it. Where's Mt. Rushmore from where you are?
