Coincidence

In the morning at the Dakota Countryside Inn in Watauga, I met the other half of the owners- a very sweet, soft spoken woman. She showed me everthing she had for the continental breakfast, and then offered to make me eggs. I declined.
I talked with her for a while about my trip. I'm not the first cyclist they've had stay with them. She told me about a family of three (mom, dad, and 8-year-old daughter) who were riding a triple tandem bike cross country. That must be some kid, I said. I can barely get kids to read for 20 minutes, let alone pedal for thousands of miles.
I thanked her and took off. The next town was only 9 miles away, but what with the wind and the heat I was feeling tired and thirsty already. Down what looked like the main street I saw a little grocery store. Before I could go in a man asked me if I was looking for a place to eat. I might be, I told him. ''Across the street. Six dollars, all you can eat, in the community center.'' Always good to catch another meal when I know nothing about the upcoming towns, so I went in.
Ham, potatoes, bread, fruit salad, dessert, iced tea. It was great. And just as I was finishing, the woman from the inn tapped me on the shoulder. ''I forgot to tell you about this place,'' she said. ''I'm glad you found it.''
My luck for places to eat and sleep has been good through South Dakota. The weather is another story.
