The morning of the first day was warm and sunny. John and I had the second "B" of our stay at The Peacock House B&B with a couple from Wisconsin and a mildly-eccentric woman from Boston. They asked about the trip and were very encouraging.

John drove me down to Quoddy Head state park. We took some photos and headed down to the beach. I couldn't possibly bring the bike down the stairs that led to the water, and I was disappointed I wouldn't get the same kind of shot I began my first trip with. The next best thing was to get some photos of just me in the chilly water. I handed the camera to John, and he snapped away.

Neither John nor I noticed he had the iPhone camera inverted to take self portraits. So you'll have to imagine me bending to the surf to collect water and pebbles in a small bottle.

Back up to the parking lot, last bit of bike prep, goodbyes to John, and I was on my way.
(Choice of music for the first 20 miles: Joan Armatrading. This is an homage to the time I went to Maine with Erin. She got me hooked, especially "Love & Affection.)
